First full study on sleep conducted by public authorities, the investigation of representations, attitudes, knowledge and practices of sleep young adults in France is part of the Program of Actions on sleep initiated by the Ministry of Health in January 2007.
Sleep is not just the well-being. Closely related to lifestyles, it has a major impact on the daily. However, good practice, bad habits, the consequences of good and evil sleep still unknown to most of the general public, as many health professionals.
INPE has conducted this study to identify drivers and brakes behavior - sleep - in a target population - young adults (25 to 45 years). Young adults are indeed a target likely to accumulate a sleep debt. It was to quantify the prevalence of chronic deficit and to identify key factors. This study focused on the perceptions, attitudes and knowledge towards sleep, rhythms and practices.
45% of respondents consider not sleep enough
Among the respondents, 12% reported suffering from insomnia and 17% accumulate a chronic sleep debt. They sleep in effect 5:48 against 7 hours. 45% consider not sleep enough. The reasons are numerous question: work (52.5%), psychological factors like stress or anxiety (40%), children (27%), recreation (21%) and transport time (17 %).
The survey of representations, attitudes, knowledge and practices of sleep young adults in France was presented today at a press conference by Philippe Lamoureux, Director General of INPE, in the presence of Professor Joel Paquereau, President of ISV (Institut National Sleep and the Vigilance).
